Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act now in Force

November 21, 2011

The Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (CNCA) was declared in force on October 17, 2011.  Federally incorporated not-for-profits now have three years to file so-called Articles of Continuance or face dissolution by Industry Canada.  The CNCA requires more financial reporting to Industry Canada, and increases the rights of members to access corporate financial records and membership information, submit resolutions for mandatory consideration at annual general meetings, and seek court orders against the corporation.
